Are We Making God Furious?

They stubbornly tested God in their hearts…When the Lord heard them, he was furious…for they did not believe God or trust him to care for them. Psalm 78:18 – 22 NLT

Who knew it was so important to God that we trust Him? He is the almighty after all, and the creator of the universe. When the Israelites were wandering through the wilderness, God was providing for them, but they didn’t like the food, or trust Him to keep it up.
This passage says God was furious with them! He does tell us numerous times in scripture not to worry but to trust Him.
It seems to be the common human frame of mind to worry. What is worry? It is a failure to trust God to care for us and protect us. That may seem harsh, but can we deny it? Jesus says in John 14, “Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” And in Matthew 6, “ Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.” If you do a Google search for scriptures about worry, or trust in God, you will find many more passages that address this issue.
In Philippians 4 Paul tells us “Do not be anxious about anything.” Anxiety is worry. We are told “Do not worry!” Yes, but you don’t understand, my child is VERY sick! Or, I just lost my job! Or, the doctor told me I have cancer! Or There is no way I can pay this bill! These surely are serious matters. But do we trust our loving heavenly Father?
Do not be anxious about anything. ANYTHING. Anything at all. Is not God all-powerful? Is He not good and loving? “The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works” Psalm 145:9.
So it is easy to see why not trusting God to care for us makes Him angry. It says we do not believe Him. He tells us over and over in His word that He loves and cares for us, yet when we worry, we are showing we do not believe what He says.
God has been speaking to me about this for awhile. I think it is beginning to sink in. when I am tempted to worry or feel stressed out I am trying to remember God’s promises and His goodness. I sure don’t want to make God furious, do you?
