Always Learning

I was thinking through my life mission statement again the other day, and one of the points caused me to stop and reflect on the last 27 plus years .

That point was this – I will learn one new skill every year.

Making and fulfilling that one goal has changed my life in so many ways. First of all it has taken away a lot of the fear of the unknown. Learning new things requires you to venture into the unknown on a regular basis. It also removes fear of failure. You cannot learn new things without failing often, and the more you fail the more open you are to learning why. When you start asking why you become curious, and curiosity always leads to expanding who you are and how well you understand yourself. Pursuing that goal has also helped me understand others better. It has given me a glimpse into the lives and difficulties of the folks doing those jobs or perfecting those skills. But I am sure that the most beneficial thing has been a deeper understand of God. Learning how God wired us and what he has given us: the ability to do and learn, the ability to create. Wow, what a gift.

So can I encourage you? KEEP LEARNING. Never stop. Learn. Explore. Read. Be curious.
