A Caring God

As we have continued on with our sermon series “The Whole Story” I have been prepping a sermon from the book of Ezekiel. As I was reading through the book I landed on Ezekiel 34:22-24. These four verses show us four promises that were given by God to his people. First, he says “I will save my flock,” second, “I will judge between my people,” third, “I will give them a leader,” and fourth, “I will be their God.” As I read and reread these verses I was struck by the fact that God is always willing to go as far as necessary to redeem and restore his people. If you notice all four of the promises are what God will do for his people and they are not conditional. Other promises found in the Old Testament were dependent on the faithfulness of the people; not these ones. These are God reaching out to his people giving them reassurance and providing redemption. What’s interesting is these aren’t just Old Testament promises; God repeats these same promises for all of us through the person of Jesus in the New Testament. He sent Jesus to be the Savior of the whole world (John 1:29). Jesus will judge all mankind (2 Cor. 5:10). God placed Jesus as the head of the Church (Col. 1:18). God gave us Jesus on earth (God with us, Matthew 1:23). God continues to fulfill His promises to us today by granting us a personal relationship with Jesus and the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.
Have you allowed God to fulfill those promises in you by accepting Jesus’ payment for your sin? Are you living in the freedom and joy of His promises? You can! The promises are for you as well!
